Beach Books in Order

Kate Cann’s Beach series, also published under the Holiday titles in some editions, is a set of sunlit young adult novels about travel, escape, friendship, romance, and growing up. Each book follows a different young woman in a different destination, so the stories work as standalones. You can start with the place and premise that appeals most.

The first book, Footloose, takes Kelly to Greece at a point when her relationship at home is no longer giving her the freedom she needs. In Fiesta, Laura heads for Spain with friends, only to find that a dream trip can become a tense group project when everyone wants something different. The series is interested in the moment when a holiday stops being a holiday and starts asking real questions.

The settings matter. Greece, Spain, California, and a Mediterranean island give the characters space from parents, school, old routines, and people who think they know them best. That distance can feel thrilling, but it also means there is nowhere to hide from a bad decision or a difficult friendship.

Sunshine does not solve everything.

In Escape, Rowan leaves England for a nanny job in the United States and finds herself needing to make another break when the work situation becomes unbearable. Sea Change follows Chloe, who joins glamorous Davinia on an island holiday and gradually sees a side of her friend she had not wanted to notice. Across the books, the journeys are as much about self-respect as they are about beaches and new places.

Romance is part of the mix, but it is rarely presented as a simple prize at the end. Cann gives her characters crushes, attraction, jealousy, and arguments, then lets them consider what they are willing to put up with. Friends can become rivals. The person who seems exciting at first may turn out to be exhausting. A chance encounter can help a character see her own life more clearly.

These are contemporary coming-of-age stories with warm-weather settings and real emotional stakes. Read them in publication order if you want to follow the series as it appeared, beginning with Footloose. Or simply pick a destination and go. The books do not depend on one continuing plot, and each offers a complete story about a young woman taking a step into a bigger world.
