Series background & context
Nightstalkers wastes very little time before things go bad. Adam and Kimberly Hall are living a normal family life with their daughter Crystal when emergency alerts warn of impact. Then the shock wave hits, the sky changes, and creatures start crawling out of the craters after dark.
That setup gives the series a useful mix of intimacy and dread. The scale is apocalyptic, but the story is built around a family trying to get out, find safer ground, and keep their small group together while the rules of the world keep changing. First the goal is the ranch. Later it is the rumor of a ship and a possible refuge called Sanctum.
Night is the problem.
Across The Extinction Event and Sanctum, the books blend invasion science fiction with road-story survival and a light horror touch. The monsters matter, but so do exhaustion, bad information, and the possibility that the promised way out may be one more trap.
If you like fast end-of-the-world fiction with a family at the center, this series is an easy fit. It keeps the action close, the threat physical, and the mood tense without losing sight of the people trying to make it to morning.
