The Navigator Kings trilogy is a historical fantasy rooted in Polynesian voyaging, island life, migration, and legend. Its world is shaped by the sea. Travel depends on skill, memory, weather, and the ability to read signs in waves, birds, plants, and the sky. The gods are also present, and their interests are not always helpful to human plans.

The trilogy opens with The Roof Of Voyaging. Kupe, a great voyager, pursues a huge octopus across the ocean and reaches the strange Land of Mists. His journey brings people from very different places into contact, just as a succession struggle begins on the island of Raiatea. It sets up a story in which politics and myth are inseparable.

The ocean connects everything, but it can take everything away.

In The Princely Flower, Kieto believes that his future lies in conquering the Land of Mists. To do that, he must understand unfamiliar peoples, their weapons, their ways of fighting, and the beliefs that guide them. The book treats navigation and practical survival as part of the adventure, not background decoration.

Land-of-Mists brings the long conflict toward its climax. Kieto prepares to lead a force against the peoples of the distant land, while Seumas, a Celtic warrior who has lived among the Polynesians, questions the plan. The voyage ahead includes storms, dangerous crossings, magic, loss, and the risk of trusting a destiny that may not be as certain as it sounds.

These books are broad in scale, but their tension is personal. Characters have to weigh loyalty against ambition, belief against doubt, and the hopes of a community against the damage caused by conquest. The detailed island settings and long sea journeys give the trilogy a very different feel from a castle-and-kingdom fantasy.

Read from The Roof Of Voyaging. The story builds steadily through the political disputes, migrations, and relationships established in the first novel, and the final book carries the central conflict to its end.
