Morningstar is Megan Hart leaning into paranormal romance with a classic devil’s bargain setup. The two books, Ride with the Devil and Dance with the Devil, are linked by the same dark idea, that love gets much harder when hell already thinks it has a claim on you.

That premise does a lot of work.

In Ride with the Devil, the story turns on Jake, a man whose soul was effectively spoken for before he ever had a say in the matter. In Dance with the Devil, Kathleen Murphy has already made her own deal and is living with the fame, power, and damage that came with it. Hart does not treat these bargains like cute supernatural decoration. They shape identity, choice, and intimacy.

The tone is moody and seductive, but there is real sadness underneath it. These are stories about temptation, yes, but also about cost. What do you owe when you got what you asked for? What happens when real affection arrives inside a life built on compromise and corruption? Hart keeps the paranormal elements clear, but the emotional draw is still very human.
