Author bio

Megan Hart was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on March 27, 1971. She studied journalism at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and she has stayed closely tied to Pennsylvania ever since. Official bios place her in Pennsylvania with her family, and that sense of place shows up again and again in her fiction.

Her path to writing started early.

One of the best-known stories about Hart as a young reader is that she loved Ray Bradbury’s Homecoming so much that she began copying it out by hand, then drifted into changing it and making it her own. It is a funny, very human origin story, and it fits the way her books work now. She often starts with something recognizable, desire, grief, family strain, fear, and then pushes it into messier, stranger, more emotionally exposed territory.

Hart began publishing professionally in the early 2000s, first with shorter work and ebooks, and then with novels that quickly built her readership. She has written across contemporary romance, erotic romance, women’s fiction, fantasy, horror, science fiction, and suspense. She has also written psychological thrillers under the name Mina Hardy, which tells you a lot about her range.

She does not stay in one lane.

Readers who pick up Dirty, Broken, or Tempted usually discover pretty fast that Hart is less interested in neat fantasy than in what people do when love, sex, guilt, and need get tangled together. Her books can be intimate, sharp, and uncomfortable in the best way. Even when the setup sounds provocative, the real draw is usually the emotional pressure underneath it.

That same instinct shows up in her more relationship-driven novels. All the Lies We Tell and All the Secrets We Keep fold romance into family history, old grief, and the kind of small-town damage that never really stays buried. The Favor and Lovely Wild also lean into secrets, memory, and the long shadow cast by the past. Hart tends to write characters who are still trying to understand what happened to them, and what they owe the people they love.

Then there is the darker and more speculative side of her work. The Order of Solace books build an invented world around ritual, service, politics, and desire. The Protector moves into near-future romantic suspense. Black Wings goes eerie and unsettling, while Little Secrets and The Resurrected show how comfortable Hart is with haunted houses, body horror, and apocalyptic unease. Even when she shifts genres, the emotional intensity stays the same.

A lot of Hart’s books return to the same core interests. Hidden wants. Shame. Control. The stories people tell themselves so they can keep functioning. Her characters often want things they can barely admit, and they are not always rewarded for honesty, but the books keep pushing them toward it anyway.

She has said, in one form or another, that she writes books, and some of them might break your heart a little. That is probably as good a short introduction as any. Whether you start with the emotionally raw romances, the family dramas, the fantasy, or the darker suspense, Megan Hart’s work tends to meet readers in the same place, where longing and fear are sitting right next to each other.
