Where should I start?
If you want the core Adept Universe in order: Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic → Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic → Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic → I See Me.
If you like bakery-centered urban fantasy: Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic → Trinkets, Treasures, and Other Bloody Magic → Treasures, Demons, and Other Black Magic.
If you prefer a darker, military-style arc: The Amplifier Protocol → Demons and DNA → Bonds and Broken Dreams.
If you want a shorter, character-focused trilogy: I See Me → I See You → I See Us.
If you are curious about her standalone worlds: After the Virus → Spirit Binder → Time Walker.
Author bio
Meghan Ciana Doidge was born on October 11 in Canada and has built a career telling stories where magic, love, and the occasional apocalypse collide. An award-winning novelist and independent filmmaker, she lives in British Columbia with her husband and an abiding fondness for chocolate, potatoes, cashmere, and sock yarn.
Before readers met her witches and dragons, she spent years in independent film, writing and directing short projects such as Din, Josephine?, Jilted, Cross Words, and Another Brief Moment. That work, and a Praxis screenwriting award, honed her feel for character-driven genre stories and tight, visual pacing.
In the early 2010s she shifted her focus from scripts to prose, releasing the post-apocalyptic love story After the Virus alongside the epic fantasy Spirit Binder and its young adult follow up Time Walker. Those early novels already mixed romance, high stakes, and magic in unusual combinations, from cults in a ruined world to prophecies playing out a thousand years after spirit rises to reclaim the earth.
Her breakout urban fantasy arrived soon after with Cupcakes, Trinkets, and Other Deadly Magic, the first Dowser novel. In Jade Godfrey, a half-witch, half-dragon baker in Vancouver who can taste magic in chocolate, Doidge found a voice that let her lean into humor, sensual detail, and messy family ties all at once. The book opened the door to a long-running blend of cozy storefront life, werewolves and vampires, guardian dragons, and world-ending threats.
The Dowser books sparked what became the Adept Universe, a web of overlapping series that share characters, timelines, and a love of the Pacific Northwest. The Oracle trilogy follows Rochelle Saintpaul, a nineteen-year-old artist whose terrifying “hallucinations” turn out to be true visions of the future, forcing her to claim the role of oracle on her own terms. The Reconstructionist novels center on Wisteria Fairchild, a meticulous witch who rebuilds magical crime scenes for investigators and discovers that some puzzles will not let her stay detached.
Later series push the universe into darker and stranger corners. The Amplifier books track Emma Johnson, a genetically engineered amplifier who escapes the Collective that bred her, retreats to a quiet life in the Pacific Northwest, then is dragged back into sorcerer politics, demons, and the question of who she is without the Amp5 designation.
By contrast, the Archivist novels follow Dusk, a lesser dragon serving as Archivist of the Modern World and head curator of a magical museum in Ireland. Between masked galas, werewolf solstice parties, and dangerous retrieval missions, Dusk juggles cursed artifacts, guardian dragon expectations, and a slow-growing romance. The Misfits of the Adept Universe begins with Misplaced Souls and picks up necromancer Mory’s story as she lives with the aftermath of kidnapping, helps defend graveyards from new threats, and proves that surviving horror does not make you the monster.
Doidge also writes beyond the Adept timeline. The Conduit novels, starting with Awry, move into a secondary world where a woman destined to anchor one of the universe’s intersection points discovers her fate has been twisted and her memories stolen, all while a “why choose” romance forms around her. The linked Conduit World or Mirth duology, beginning with Grand Romantic Delusions and the Madness of Mirth, leans into political fantasy and polyamorous romance as a reluctant heir navigates matchmaking, succession, and the literal weight of a realm balanced on magical bonds.
Across all of these worlds, certain themes keep resurfacing. Her protagonists are usually very good at surviving but bad at trusting, people shaped by violence who still reach for community, craft, and small pleasures like cupcakes or sketchbooks. Found family, second chances, and the tension between destiny and choice run through almost every series.
Day to day, she treats writing as a long-running conversation with readers, releasing new novels, novellas, and crossover stories most years and collecting them into reading orders that reward re-visiting earlier books. From her home in coastal British Columbia, surrounded by books, yarn, and likely a stash of dark chocolate, she keeps expanding the Adept Universe and its offshoots one story at a time.
