Author bio
Matt Rogers grew up in Melbourne, Australia, tearing through thrillers and mysteries as fast as he could borrow or buy them. Big paperbacks, dog-eared library copies, anything with danger on the cover ended up in his hands.
Those books did more than fill spare time. They gave him a sense of pace, tension, and consequence that would later define his own writing. Long before he thought of himself as an author, he was quietly studying how his favourite stories worked.
In his late teens he stopped only reading thrillers and started making them. Instead of waiting for a traditional deal, he went straight to self publishing. At around eighteen he released his first novel and treated it like a full time job, teaching himself everything from story structure to cover design to talking with readers.
The experiment snowballed. Over the next eight years he wrote and released more than thirty five thrillers, handling the writing and marketing himself. Word of mouth did the rest. By the time many writers are still finding their feet, he had sold over a million copies worldwide and built a loyal audience that follows him from series to series.
His early breakout came with the Jason King books, brutal globe trotting stories about an ex black ops operative working for a covert unit called Black Force. Novels like Isolated, Imprisoned and Hunted combine big set pieces with a tight focus on one man trying to live with the things he has done while still choosing to fight.
From there the universe widened. Rogers introduced Will Slater, another damaged operator with his own moral code, then brought the two together in the long running King & Slater series. Those books lean into partnership, family and fallout, following two warriors who try to build something like a normal life even as old enemies and new conspiracies keep dragging them back into the dark.
More recently he has shifted some of that energy into Dante Jacoby, a reluctant hero whose freakish reflexes and messy personal life pull him into a web of genetic experimentation, private armies and Silicon Valley excess. In Be Somebody, Double Life, Dark Mirror and beyond, Rogers plays with questions of identity, legacy and what it means to change when the world will not let your past go.
Running alongside the main novels are shorter works and origin stories. The Jason King Files dig into King’s earliest missions. The Lore of King & Slater novellas trace how Will Slater and Jason King became the men readers first met on the page. Newer books like The Forsaken launch fresh protagonists while still feeling like part of the same hard hitting world.
Away from the keyboard, Rogers is an ultramarathon runner and mountain trekker. Long hours on the trail feed straight back into his fiction, giving weight to the way his characters think about fatigue, fear and endurance. When his heroes are gasping for air on a high altitude climb or grinding through pain, it comes from lived experience as much as imagination.
These days he writes thrillers full time. The tone is fast and accessible, but he is not afraid to slip philosophy into gunfights or let his characters wrestle with big questions between explosions. If you like action that moves quickly, settings that feel real, and protagonists who know exactly how flawed they are, his books are built for you.
