Series background & context

Mane Shift is a contemporary paranormal fantasy series built around Luna Summerwood, a veterinarian, a witch, and a woman with a rare talent for communicating with animals. Luna's power may seem modest beside the more dramatic gifts in her family, but it makes her unusually good at noticing when an animal is frightened, hurt, or trying to tell her something important.

She runs a veterinary clinic on her family's long-held land, a place tied to generations of Summerwood witches and the magic buried beneath it. Luna has made a life around caring for creatures that need help. Her rule is to take in strays, especially animals. She does not intend to add old boyfriends, magical cults, or shapeshifters to that list.

Then an injured maned wolf arrives at her clinic in the middle of the night. The animal is not what it seems, and Luna is drawn into a hidden world of shifter trafficking and occult crime. Her former boyfriend, now a local deputy, becomes part of the investigation as missing farm animals and dangerous collectors point to a larger threat.

The series has a warm animal-care center, but the stakes are not cozy. The Casimir, a group of sorcerers and magical collectors, want access to the Summerwood property and its power. Their history with Luna's family runs deep. Luna has to learn that talking to animals is not a small gift when the animals around her are willing to watch, warn, and fight for the home she has protected.

Start with Shifting Silence. It introduces Luna, her clinic, her aunt, the Summerwood land, and Renan, the maned-wolf shifter who needs sanctuary. The book combines a local mystery, family magic, a growing attraction, and a struggle to keep dangerous people from taking what they want.

Shifting Summer continues in the same supernatural world, returning to the Summerwoods, their ancestral magic, and the shapeshifter side of Luna's life. Reading it after the first book lets the relationships and the history behind the family's land land more clearly.

Mane Shift is for readers who like animal companions, capable witches, family property with secrets, and romance that develops under pressure. It keeps its focus close to home: a clinic, a farm, a community, and the people and creatures a healer refuses to abandon.
