Series background & context
Crow's Curse is a dark paranormal fantasy series about Garnet Conners, a trauma surgeon whose practical life is pulled apart by vampires, witches, old memories, and the blood of a goddess. Garnet knows hospitals, emergencies, and the hard work of saving lives. She does not expect a patient to walk away from her operating table and vanish into the night, or for that event to reveal a hidden war in her city.
Garnet carries the blood of the Morrigan, a legendary figure associated with war, death, and crows. At first, she wants nothing to do with the claim that she is tied to an ancient magical incarnation. But dreams of battlefields and a mysterious man begin to make that denial harder to hold onto. The supernatural world has already noticed her, and both vampires and witches see her power as something worth possessing.
Riverpointe is a former bootlegging city with a secret paranormal population. It gives the series a noir-tinged setting for covens, vampire factions, backroom bargains, and supernatural violence. Garnet's medical training does not vanish when magic arrives. It shapes the way she sees bodies, fear, responsibility, and the damage powerful people are willing to do to others.
Begin with Morrigan’s Blood. Garnet is drawn into the conflict after a strange hospital case and meets Sorin, a warlock trying to protect the city from a vampire society. As threats close in on her career and loved ones, she has to decide whether the Morrigan's power can be used on her own terms.
- Morrigan's Bite* changes Garnet's situation sharply when she is turned into a vampire against her will. Living under the protection of hostile witches, she struggles with hunger, identity, and dreams that suggest frightening connections to one of the Morrigan's former lives. When people close to her disappear, she has little choice but to face the vampires pursuing her.
The trilogy closes with Morrigan's Bond. Garnet works at the city morgue, where victims of vampire violence begin to pile up. An uneasy offer from Merrel, the vampire who turned her, sends her toward a final confrontation with the vampire queen Varya and the wider war threatening Riverpointe.
These books are compact, intense, and full of difficult choices. Garnet's story is less about accepting a predestined role than deciding what kind of person she will be after every old power tries to name her.
