Barrett's boyfriend hires Madison, and the search soon points toward the big story Barrett had been pursuing. Madison retraces the journalist's steps while trying to determine what her client is hiding and why she herself has begun to feel followed.

The books are high-stakes private-eye mysteries with a strong Southern California sense of place. They balance interviews, clues, suspects, and personal complications with the immediate question that drives each story: can Madison find the truth before the person behind it closes in? Her career shift toward more dangerous cases provides continuity, while each novel has its own central mystery.

Both books can be read on their own, but starting with Anonymous is the best way to meet Madison at the beginning and then move on to Double Take. Expect a capable investigator, close-to-home danger, and cases that make the familiar beaches and neighborhoods around San Diego feel a little less safe.
