Series background & context

Lilith and Her Harem is where May Dawson's published series fiction begins, and you can already see so much of what she likes. The heroine, Ellis, is grieving her twin sister, developing frightening powers, and getting dragged into a supernatural conflict far bigger than anything she thought existed. Her life shifts from ordinary pain to full paranormal chaos almost overnight.

The Company makes sure of that.

In Wild Angels, Ellis is taken to a haunted asylum where the people in charge want to use her powers to reach into the afterlife. That gives the series an early gothic feel, ghosts, confinement, and the sense that help may be tangled up with manipulation. Ryker, Levi, Jacob, and eventually Nimshi turn the story into a reverse harem, but the books never forget the other engine driving Ellis: she wants her sister back.

That personal goal keeps carrying the series forward through Fierce Angels, Dirty Angels, and Chosen Angels. The world widens into demons, curses, councils, Hell, and the Far, but Ellis's emotional center stays steady. She is trying to protect her people, rescue the ones she loves, and figure out what fate actually means when it keeps asking for blood.

Compared with some of Dawson's later books, this series feels more urban fantasy than school romance, and more supernatural quest than court intrigue. It still has heat and found family, but it also has a real streak of haunted urgency.

If you are curious about where Dawson started, or you want a paranormal reverse harem with ghosts, demons, and a heroine who keeps charging into impossible places, Lilith and Her Harem is a good first stop.
