Series background & context

The books grouped as Lessons in Temptation show McCabe working in a more loosely linked, mood-driven Regency mode. These are romances where proper surfaces hide much messier feelings, and sometimes stranger elements too. Haunted places, disguises, family secrets, and emotional hesitation all have room to matter.

That looseness is part of the appeal. The books are not built around one giant family plot so much as a shared interest in women who must step past safety and men who are not as simple as they first appear. The tension tends to come from what is concealed, socially, personally, and sometimes almost supernaturally.

If you like Regency romance that leans a little more atmospheric than frothy, this grouping makes sense. The pleasures here are secrecy, vulnerability, and the moment a carefully controlled life starts to slip.
