Series background & context

Legendary Rogues is the Darcy Burke series for readers who want their historical romance with more motion. These books are not content to stay in drawing rooms. They chase clues, manuscripts, legends, hidden histories, and sometimes treasure itself across Regency England, Wales, and beyond.

The romance is still the engine, but adventure gets a big seat at the table.

The stories often pair smart, determined heroines with men who are scholars, rogues, explorers, or some combination of the three. Instead of relying only on social pressure, Burke builds tension through shared danger and shared purpose. The couples have to work together. They decode things, travel together, argue in close quarters, and discover that attraction is much harder to ignore when you are already chasing the same mystery.

A recurring pleasure of the series is the atmosphere. There are hints of Arthurian legend, old texts, shadowy organizations, and the thrill of finding out that what looked like an academic problem may be something far bigger. The books keep a romantic tone, but they are also willing to be playful about adventure. Readers who like road-trip energy in a historical setting tend to do well here.

Because of that mix, Legendary Rogues feels a little different from Burke's more socially rooted Regency series. The settings are broader, the plots are more outward-facing, and the couples often bond while trying to solve something together rather than simply survive a Season.

Start with The Legend of a Rogue for the prequel flavor, then move into Lady of Desire, Romancing the Earl, Lord of Fortune, and Captivating the Scoundrel. If you want romance plus travel, mystery, and a lightly swashbuckling mood, this is probably the best place in Burke's catalog to begin.
