Kirill Klevanski was born and grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia, a city he still calls home. He has said he was drawn to fantasy from early on, to imagined worlds, strange creatures, and the feeling that a story could open a second life alongside the ordinary one.
His writing career started young. As a teenager, he signed an early publishing contract, and in his early twenties he found a much larger audience online, especially through fan fiction connected with Harry Potter. One of those projects reportedly drew around a million reads in well under a year, which gave him something every developing writer needs, practice, pressure, and readers waiting for the next chapter.
Then writing stopped.
After finishing his studies, he worked as a history teacher and stepped away from fiction for a time. That detour matters because it seems to have sharpened what came next. He has described discovering LitRPG and Wuxia as the turning point that pulled him back, giving him a form big enough for long arcs, martial discipline, game logic, and mythic stakes all at once.
The result was Stone Will and the huge Dragon Heart saga. That series made his name for many readers outside Russia, and it is easy to see why people stick with it. The books begin with rebirth and revenge, then grow into something much wider, mixing cultivation, warfare, travel, politics, and questions about fate. Readers who click with it usually talk about the momentum first, but the emotional wear on Hadjar matters just as much.
Klevanski has not stayed in one mode, though. Dark Wizard's Case moves into urban fantasy and magical crime, built around a much pricklier lead and a world where modern life and open magic crash into each other. Ash opens a side door into the larger mythos around the Nameless World. More recently, Matabar has introduced new readers to Ardan Egobar, a young hunter whose path leads into mage training, imperial politics, and conspiracy.
He likes long games.
That shows up in the way his series are built. His books often start with one clear hook, a reborn swordsman, a released dark mage, a boy from the mountains, and then keep widening. The world gets bigger. The stakes get stranger. Side characters return with new weight. Old promises start to matter again many books later. Even when the prose stays direct, the architecture underneath is designed for the long haul.
There are a few recurring things readers can expect from him. His heroes rarely get comfort for long. Power usually comes with a price, sometimes a brutal one. Travel is important, not just as scenery, but as the way a character grows into a larger world. And even when the setup includes levels, magical systems, or cultivation ranks, the real focus is usually endurance, loyalty, pride, grief, and the stubborn choice to keep moving.
Klevanski continues to publish prolifically, both online and in book form, and his newer work shows that he is still experimenting inside the broad field of progression fantasy. He keeps most of his private life out of public view, so the clearest picture of him is still on the page. That feels fitting. He writes as someone who likes scale, pressure, and another road beyond the one his characters have just survived.
