Author bio
Kiersten Fay writes paranormal romance that likes to wander into science fiction, fantasy, and adventure. She is a USA Today bestselling author, and her best-known work includes the Shadow Quest books, the Creatures of Darkness novels, and the Dragon Lords spin-off. If you like supernatural romance with spaceships, dangerous kingdoms, and characters who are usually in over their heads, she has a lane.
Before novels, she worked as a graphic designer.
That earlier career still shows up in the way she approaches her books. Fay has created her own covers, and she has talked about loving the full process, from dreaming up the world to shaping the final package. She also seems to enjoy the research side of writing, which fits a bibliography full of demons, vampires, witches, dragons, and alien cultures loosely inspired by myth and folklore.
Her path into fiction came from a simple impulse. She loved paranormal romance, loved sci-fi, and wanted to smash the two together. That choice gave her a signature setup: romance at the center, but with plenty of movement around it. Her stories are rarely just about two people meeting. There are ships to escape, enemies to outmaneuver, rival powers to survive, and secrets that tend to blow up at the worst possible moment.
Demon Possession is a good example of how she works.
That book drops Analia, a woman with missing memories and dangerous hidden powers, onto a ship commanded by the demon Sebastian. The result is part slow-burn romance, part space adventure, part survival story. Readers who connect with Fay often like that mix. The feelings matter, but so do the worldbuilding, the tension, and the sense that trouble is always one bad decision away.
She carried that approach into Demon Slave, Demon Retribution, and Demon Untamed, building Shadow Quest into a larger romantic space fantasy. The books move across planets, courts, ships, and battle zones, and they follow couples who have to learn trust under pressure. Fay has even joked that she enjoys throwing characters into unfamiliar situations and making them adapt. That sink-or-swim energy is all over the series.
Her other books open up different corners of her fiction. In A Wicked Hunger, A Wicked Night, and A Wicked Desire, she shifts into a darker future where vampires live openly among humans and Coraline Conwell gets pulled into a dangerous supernatural fight she never asked for. Keeping His Siren and The Vampire's Masquerade stay in vampire territory, but with more nightclub glamour and clan politics. Later, Tempting The Dragon King pushed further into dragon shifters, royal intrigue, and star-crossed attraction.
Across all of it, a few patterns keep returning. Fay likes strong heroines, alpha heroes, fast-moving danger, and love stories that have to earn their ending. She also likes characters with baggage. A lot of baggage. Even when the setup sounds wild on paper, the emotional engine is usually familiar: trust, fear, desire, loyalty, and the risk of choosing the wrong person at exactly the wrong time.
Her work picked up early recognition too. Demon Retribution won Favorite Story of August 2012, and Fay was nominated for favorite author that same year. Her short story Racing Hearts later appeared in The Mammoth Book of Futuristic Romance, which makes sense, since the story shares her usual strengths: chemistry, momentum, and a couple forced to deal with their mess in a high-pressure setting.
These days, Fay still seems happiest building new story worlds, researching future projects, and staying close to the visual side of her books. She has written about loving action, conflict, and the idea of true love, and that combination is a pretty solid map of what she does. Pick up one of her series and you can see it right away. People fall hard, danger closes in, and nobody gets an easy ride.
