Shadow Quest Books in Order

Shadow Quest is where Kiersten Fay really lets paranormal romance collide with space adventure. These books take demons, witches, dragon shifters, and other myth-inspired beings, then drop them into a science fiction setting full of ships, strange planets, and dangerous politics. The result is not straight space opera and not straight paranormal romance either. It sits right in the middle, which is the fun of it.

The series opens with Demon Possession, where Analia escapes a brutal past and winds up aboard a ship commanded by Sebastian, a demon captain who is not sure whether to protect her or throw her off his vessel. That book sets the tone for everything that follows. Characters meet in bad circumstances, attraction shows up early, and trust takes a lot longer. There is always a bigger problem in the background, and usually more than one.

Each main book follows a different couple, but the world keeps building from one story to the next. Demon Slave shifts to Marik and Princess Nadua on a frozen planet facing rebellion and old trauma. Demon Retribution brings Cale to Earth in search of the last missing princess, Kyra, whose magic is as dangerous as it is mysterious. Demon Untamed pulls in the Pirate King, Ethan, and Sonya, who has every reason to hate men like him. Familiar faces keep returning, so the series develops a real found-family feel.

No one in this universe gets an easy ride.

The setting is broad and restless. Ships cross open space. Royal bloodlines are scattered. Pirates, mercenaries, and hostile factions push against already shaky alliances. Fay also plays a neat trick with her supernatural cast. Demons, witches, dragons, and fae-like beings feel mythic, but they are also part of an interplanetary world, so the books can switch from court intrigue to chase scenes to battlefield tension without feeling like they changed genre halfway through.

Romance is still the center of gravity, though. Fay likes couples who have to prove themselves to each other while everything around them is on fire. There is a fated-mates flavor in places, but it never makes life simple. Mistrust, hidden identities, grief, and duty keep getting in the way. That is why the books read best in order, starting with Demon Possession, even though each one spotlights a different pair.

If you want fast-moving paranormal romance with a real sci-fi backbone, this is probably the place to start with Fay. And if you finish the main run wanting one more taste of the world, Racing Hearts works as a short side trip built around the notorious Phase Nine race.
