Brian Drake’s Jack Slayton series follows Jack Slayton, a former Navy SEAL and CIA specialist whose missions are complicated by personal losses and deep distrust inside the intelligence world. Slayton is a man of training and discipline, but the series gives him threats that cannot be handled by procedure alone.

October Blood opens the series. Three years earlier, Slayton lost Reema Ashraf, the woman he loved and trusted as a partner, during a covert mission that went badly wrong. The CIA believes Reema died. Jack never accepted it. When she suddenly returns with a warning about a rogue intelligence syndicate operating in Europe, both of them become targets.

The first book turns a reunion into a dangerous chase.

Jack and Reema uncover a conspiracy with roots inside the institutions meant to protect people. That mix of emotional history and spy-fiction stakes drives the series. Slayton wants answers about what happened to Reema, but he also has to stop plans that could cost many lives. The danger is personal from the beginning, and the people arranging it know how intelligence operations work.

In Iron Ghost, Slayton is working within the CIA’s Z Section when a lead brings him back to Andreas Ritter, the terrorist responsible for a bombing that killed some of Jack’s fellow service members. Assassins try to silence the informant, and the pursuit carries Slayton across Europe as Ritter’s network creates chaos to stay ahead. Jack must decide how much of his future he is willing to sacrifice for revenge.

Target Package broadens the threat again. Cartel leader Felix Carballo seeks revenge after his assassin daughter is killed, and he prepares a chemical attack meant to kill millions on both sides of the U.S.-Mexico border. Slayton and Reema work alongside, and sometimes against, other forces racing to find Carballo before the attack can happen.

The tone is high-stakes and personal. Slayton is not just chasing villains from one location to the next. He is carrying grief, survivor’s guilt, and the burden of decisions made in previous operations. Reema is equally important to the series, bringing her own knowledge, wounds, and reasons not to trust the people around them.
