Series background & context
Highland Magic is one of Helen Harper's most Scottish fantasy series, built around a fractured Scotland where old supernatural divisions have reshaped the country. The Lowlands have been invaded and settled by Fomori demons, while the magically Gifted Sidhe clans still hold power in the Highlands.
Into that world steps Integrity Taylor.
Integrity is an orphan, a thief, and the supposed heir to a Sidhe clan with a very ugly history. She survives with quick hands, bad jokes, and a strong instinct for staying out of reach. Unfortunately for her, bloodlines matter in this world, and the people who hate her family are not inclined to let her live quietly.
The series mixes heist energy with clan politics. Integrity is not a polished court player. She is someone who has learned to scrape by, make friends where she can, and run when she must. When she is dragged back toward her heritage, she has to decide what kind of power she wants and whether her clan's ruined name can ever be reclaimed.
The setting gives the books much of their shape. Harper leans into a Scotland divided by history, magic, land, and grudges. The Sidhe clans are proud and dangerous. The Fomori threat adds pressure from the outside. The result is a story where personal survival and political change are closely tied.
Read the series in order, beginning with Gifted Thief. Honour Bound expands the stakes through the Sidhe Games, while Veiled Threat and Last Wish push Integrity toward the hard choices behind her inheritance.
