Series background & context

Green Valley Heroes is Juliette Cross writing in a more contemporary, romcom mode, and it suits her well. Set in Penny Reid's Green Valley world, these books trade witches and dragons for firefighters, podcasters, dreamers, and single dads. The stakes are smaller on paper, but the emotional pull is still strong, because Cross knows how to make chemistry feel immediate and character flaws feel human.

The setting is Green Valley, Tennessee, a small town where everyone seems to know everyone else, and nobody gets to reinvent themselves in peace. That is part of the fun. The town gives the books a built-in sense of community, and Cross uses that to create stories where embarrassment, history, and affection all land at the same time. You get humor, but you also get the pressure that comes from being seen too clearly.

Parks and Provocation leans into that beautifully. Lola Landry is having a terrible day when her old high school nemesis, firefighter Jedediah Lawson, shows up to help. What starts as a petty revenge plan tied to Lola's podcast turns into something much more complicated when Jed turns out to be patient, charming, and not at all the guy she thought he was. It is a strong enemies-to-lovers setup, but the real pleasure is watching Lola's certainty slowly fall apart.

Peaches and Dreams keeps the small-town feel but shifts into a softer, more rooted kind of romance. Marly Rivers is chasing a moonshine dream that other people dismiss, while Wade Kelley is a single dad who has convinced himself he is doing fine on his own. Their story has more domestic pull, more quiet buildup, and a nice sense that everyday help can turn into something much bigger. There is still danger around the edges, but the heart of the book is watching two people build trust.

Funny, sweet, and easy to fall into.

As a series, Green Valley Heroes works well for readers who want connected contemporary romances with plenty of personality. These books can stand on their own, but together they offer a fuller picture of a town where people mess up, show up, and eventually figure themselves out. If you like romcom energy with real tenderness underneath, this is a good corner of Cross's bibliography to try.
