Series background & context

Gorkamorka is a Warhammer 40,000 skirmish game set on Angelis, a harsh desert world where orks, gretchin, and human diggas race across the wastes in ramshackle vehicles. Gav Thorpe was part of the Games Workshop team that developed the game and contributed to its rules and background.

The setting is built for campaigns rather than one fixed story. Players create small mobs, give them battered vehicles and unreliable weapons, then send them out to fight over territory, salvage, supplies, and status. The results are often violent, unfair, and funny in the particular way ork stories tend to be.

If the engine works, it is probably a trap.

The books linked here are game supplements rather than conventional novels. Da Uvver Book expands the core game with additional rules, equipment, scenarios, and campaign material. It gives players more ways to develop their mobs and make the wasteland feel like a place full of competing schemes.

Wustenwuhlas takes the action further into the desert, adding material for the badlands and the dangers beyond established settlements. Skavanob focuses on further expansion, helping players build campaigns with more vehicles, characters, and strange corners of Angelis to explore.

What makes Gorkamorka different from a standard Warhammer 40,000 battle is its scale. Instead of commanding an army, players follow a small group of individual fighters. A single lucky shot, a badly timed jump, or an argument over loot can reshape the whole campaign. Vehicles have personalities because they are repaired, modified, stolen, and driven far beyond sensible limits.

The orks are central, but they are not the only inhabitants. Gretchin, diggas, muties, and other groups make Angelis feel like a place with its own local rules. It is a backwater world, but it is never quiet. Every gang thinks the next raid could make it rich, important, or at least slightly less likely to be shot by its boss.

This page is best used as a guide to Thorpe's contributions to Gorkamorka and the books that supported the game. Start with Da Uvver Book if you want the broadest expansion material, then move into Wustenwuhlas and Skavanob for more of Angelis and its chaotic campaign play.
