Series background & context

Exit Strategy is Drake's assassin romance series, and it starts with a simple bad idea, put two dangerous men together on a job and see who survives the partnership. Justin Mallory works alone when he can. Gabriel Prescott, better known as G Love, has every reason not to trust anyone. Naturally, they end up forced into the same mess.

The early part of the series follows Justin and Gabriel closely. Their story stretches across multiple books, which gives the romance a little more room than a one-and-done setup. They are not just falling for each other. They are trying to decide whether a life outside the killing business is even possible.

Trust is the hard part.

That gives the series its shape. The jobs are full of bullets, pharmaceuticals, secret meetings, explosions, and the kind of pressure that does not leave much room for tenderness. But the emotional question underneath is always whether these men can stop treating survival as the only thing that matters.

Later books widen the world and hand the spotlight to other couples, including Kai and Devlin and then the next generation circling the assassin network. That makes Exit Strategy feel bigger than a trilogy even though Justin and Gabriel remain the emotional anchor.

If you like romantic suspense with trained killers, sharp banter, serious danger, and a love story that has to claw its way past years of damage, this is one of Drake's most direct entry points.
