Erin M. Evans grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and studied anthropology at Washington University in St. Louis. That background has proved useful for a fantasy writer, especially one drawn to myths, social rules, old grudges, and the strange things people build their lives around.
After college, Evans and her husband traveled around the United States in a 1983 Winnebago before settling in the Seattle area. She later worked at Wizards of the Coast, including as editor of the Eberron novel line. Editing gave her a close look at how shared fantasy worlds are put together, but it also led naturally toward writing stories of her own.
Her first novel, The God Catcher, arrived in 2010. Set in Waterdeep, it follows a young woman hungry to learn magic and a mysterious figure who claims to be a dragon. It is a street-level adventure with magical bargains, city politics, and a heroine figuring out what she wants her life to be.
Then came Brimstone Angels.
That six-book Forgotten Realms saga centers on Farideh and Havilar, tiefling twins raised by their dragonborn adoptive father, Mehen. Farideh's pact with the devil Lorcan gives the series its first big problem, but the books keep widening into family loyalty, infernal power struggles, lost history, royal politics, and the difficult question of who gets to decide what a person is worth.
Readers who like the saga often come for the action and stay for the relationships. Farideh is thoughtful and wary, Havilar is restless and impulsive, and Mehen is fiercely protective. Their arguments, bad timing, and efforts to protect one another give the big Dungeons & Dragons setting a lived-in feel. The Adversary also serves as Evans's contribution to the larger Forgotten Realms event series, The Sundering.
Evans later moved into an original setting with Empire of Exiles, the first Books of the Usurper novel. The story brings together an apprentice scribe, archivists, a detective, and dangerous objects from an old rebellion. Its sequel, Relics of Ruin, follows the same team as a stolen holy relic threatens the empire's fragile peace. These books lean into mysteries, records, artifacts, and the people trying to make sense of the past before it causes fresh trouble.
She has also written RuneScape fiction, including The Gift of Guthix and Shadows of Amascut, stories that explore different parts of Gielinor's deep history. Across her work, Evans returns to magic with strings attached, families made by choice, and characters who have to act before they fully understand the stakes.
She lives in the Seattle area with her husband and sons. Alongside her fiction, she has co-hosted the podcast Writing about Dragons and Shit and appeared in the actual-play series Dungeon Scrawlers.
