Series background & context

The Brimstone Angels saga is Erin M. Evans's six-book Forgotten Realms series about Farideh, a young tiefling warlock, her twin sister Havilar, and the dragonborn man who raised them, Mehen. It starts as a story about a dangerous magical bargain and grows into a long-running family adventure with devils, gods, political schemes, and very personal consequences.

Farideh has always felt out of place. When she makes a pact with the cambion Lorcan and gains warlock magic, that feeling becomes a serious problem. Her choices pull Farideh, Havilar, and Mehen away from their home and toward Neverwinter, where bounty hunters, rival factions, and infernal forces are already moving into place.

Nothing stays simple for long.

The early books, Brimstone Angels and Lesser Evils, establish the heart of the series: two sisters who love each other, annoy each other, and cannot avoid the repercussions of Farideh's pact. Havilar is bold and often acts first. Farideh is more cautious, but her connection to Lorcan places her close to dangers she cannot simply walk away from. Mehen brings experience, stubbornness, and a father's determination to keep both daughters safe, even when they are old enough to resist being protected.

As the story continues through The Adversary, Fire in the Blood, Ashes of the Tyrant, and The Devil You Know, the setting expands beyond Neverwinter. The characters move through Faerûn, the Nine Hells, Cormyr, and the dragonborn city of Djerad Thymar. Each stop raises the stakes, but the ongoing concerns remain close to home: who can be trusted, what a family owes its members, and whether a person can escape the role others have assigned them.

The series is fast-moving but not just about fights and spells. Farideh's pact is never a simple source of power. It affects her relationships, her choices, and the way others see her. Havilar's search for independence also matters, while Mehen's past and the group's expanding circle of allies bring fresh conflicts into view.

This is a good fit for readers who want Forgotten Realms fantasy that follows the same characters over several books. You do not need deep game knowledge to follow the main story, though familiar places and lore add extra texture. The tone mixes adventure, banter, emotional pressure, and increasingly high stakes.

Start with Brimstone Angels and read in publication order. The third novel, The Adversary, also connects to The Sundering event, but it works best as part of Farideh's ongoing story rather than as a stand-alone detour.
