Ed Greenwood Presents Waterdeep is a group of stand-alone Forgotten Realms novels set in Waterdeep, the busy port city often called the City of Splendors. Erin M. Evans's contribution is The God Catcher, a self-contained adventure about ambition, identity, dragons, and the hazards of trusting someone who may be telling the truth for all the wrong reasons.

The offer is tempting, but a bounty hunter warns Tennora that Nestrix may be a dangerous criminal rather than a dragon in need. From there, The God Catcher becomes a question of judgment. Tennora has to decide whom to believe while navigating rival dragons, magical objects, and threats to the city itself. The more she learns, the less easy it is to separate a victim from a villain.

The title refers to a landmark in Waterdeep, a fallen divine statue that has become part of the city around it. That image suits the book. Old magic and old disasters have not disappeared, they have simply been built over. Tennora's search for independence takes place in the shadow of those unfinished problems.

The tone is adventurous and city-focused, with a young heroine who has to become more capable quickly. It works well for readers who like fantasy mysteries with magical bargains and a contained setting, or for anyone who wants a direct way into Waterdeep without committing to a long sequence.

Although the wider Waterdeep line shares a setting, The God Catcher stands on its own. Start there. It offers a complete story while leaving enough room to enjoy the city's many corners, hidden histories, and troublesome dragons.
