Downside of Dating Books in Order

The Downside of Dating series is Avery Flynn leaning hard into the idea that romance usually shows up when life is already a disaster. These are books about bad timing, public humiliation, impossible family events, and the sort of impulsive choice that seems smart for about five seconds.

Each story stands alone, but the vibe stays consistent. The heroines are sharp, funny, and done with nonsense. The heroes are usually confident in ways that are either deeply helpful or deeply annoying, depending on the page. Weddings, hookups, nosy relatives, and old emotional scars all collide until nobody can pretend they are in control anymore.

Anger Bang opens with a wedding from hell, a reality TV circus, and a paleontologist heroine who is pushed one insult too far. Her revenge hookup with the groom's brother is petty, hot, and instantly complicated. Walk of Shame keeps the same chaotic energy but shifts it into a hockey-adjacent setup, where a woman who has every reason to avoid the sport wakes up entangled with exactly the kind of man she swore off.

That mix is the point. These books are less about polished dating and more about what happens after the plan blows up. One night stands turn into neighbors. Family obligations become traps. People who are trying very hard to stay detached get dragged into each other's everyday lives.

They're funny, but not lightweight. Flynn gives the characters real embarrassment, real history, and real reasons to keep their guard up. Then she throws them into the worst possible social situation and lets the sparks do the rest.
