Series background & context

Retreat is a compact Avery Flynn setup with a lot of pressure packed into one place. The series, or really the contained world around Dodging Temptation, uses a luxury Wyoming resort as the kind of glamorous hiding spot that only works if nobody starts wanting the wrong person.

That is exactly what happens. Dodge is trying to close a huge deal and keep control of a carefully managed environment. Harper arrives needing privacy after a very public scandal and refuses to be pushed out. So the story quickly turns into a forced-proximity battle between two stubborn adults who are both used to defending themselves first.

The setting does a lot of work here. Resorts are supposed to feel calm, but this one is full of paparazzi risk, family influence, revenge motives, and no real escape once the sparks start. That makes the romance feel bottled up in a good way.

If you like enemies-to-lovers stories where two people are cornered into seeing each other clearly, Retreat gives you that with a wealthy backdrop and a slightly sharper edge than a standard vacation romance.
