Author bio

Debbie Viguie grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and studied creative writing at the University of California, Davis. From the start, she has written the kind of stories that move fast, lean into emotion, and are not afraid of a little darkness. Fantasy, mystery, suspense, horror, romance, she has worked in all of them.

She likes stories where ordinary life suddenly gets weird, dangerous, or both.

A lot of readers first found her through Wicked, the YA fantasy series she wrote with Nancy Holder. Those books helped put her on the bestseller lists and showed what she does well: strong momentum, supernatural danger, and young characters trying to figure out who they are while the ground shifts under them. She returned to that mix in books like Crusade and Unleashed, where paranormal threats and high-stakes relationships drive the story forward.

But she did not stay in one corner of the shelf for long.

Her Psalm 23 Mysteries opened up another side of her work. Beginning with The Lord Is My Shepherd, the series pairs church secretary Cindy Preston with Rabbi Jeremiah Silverman, who has a dangerous past and a talent for finding trouble. The books mix murder investigations, holiday settings, church life, and a slow-building emotional arc that rewards reading in order. Readers who like returning casts and long-running character threads tend to settle into this series for the long haul.

She has also written darker supernatural suspense, including The Thirteenth Sacrifice and the Kiss Trilogy. In those books, witches, vampires, faith, guilt, and redemption all sit close together. Even when the setup is big and dramatic, the pull usually comes from the characters trying to do the right thing while carrying more baggage than they want to admit.

That range is a big part of her appeal. One shelf over, she is writing fairy-tale retellings like Scarlet Moon, Midnight Pearls, and Violet Eyes. Another shelf over, she is sending an archaeologist after Atlantis in the Tex Ravencroft adventures or turning Robin Hood into a darker fantasy quest in Mark of the Black Arrow.

Across all those books, a few things keep showing up. She likes hidden histories, uneasy alliances, and people who discover that the world is far more complicated than they thought. She also writes a lot of characters who have to trust instinct before they have proof, whether that means a church secretary, a teenage heroine, or a cop with a past she would rather forget.

Outside the novels, she has also done acting work and played a recurring character on the audio drama Doctor Geek's Laboratory. She lives in Florida with her husband, Scott, and has talked about enjoying theme parks when she is not writing.

That mix of dark imagination, mystery plotting, and obvious affection for genre storytelling runs through just about everything she does.
