Salty Tale Mystery Books in Order

This series takes Debbie Viguie's love of mystery and drops it into a small-town coastal setting full of suspicion, buried history, and bad first impressions. The center of the story is Anise, a spice-shop owner whose husband vanished and left her to deal with the wreckage. Too many people in town think she had something to do with it.

That setup gives The Spice of Life a strong hook right away. Anise is isolated, angry, and trying to keep a struggling business alive while carrying the weight of local gossip. Then a dead man turns up and things get worse. Enter Lincoln, a drifter with PTSD who is clearly carrying trouble of his own. Their uneasy alliance is a big part of what makes the series work.

The mystery side has real stakes, but the series also leans on atmosphere. The spice shop, the town's long memory, and the feeling that everyone knows more than they are saying all help. It is not a cozy in the softest sense. There is romance, but there is also trauma, danger, and a stronger thriller edge than the setup first suggests.

Anise and Lincoln are both damaged enough to keep the books interesting. Neither one arrives as a polished amateur sleuth. They are trying to survive, clear names, and figure out what to do with each other at the same time.
