Dead West Books in Order

Dead West is an Old West horror series written by Kenny Soward with Tim Marquitz and J.M. Martin. It begins in 1868, during the expansion of the Central Pacific Railroad, when a zombie outbreak hits a Sierra Nevada settlement and turns an already hard frontier into something much worse.

At the center is Nina Weaver, traveling with her father, Lincoln, when the dead begin to rise. Their first problem is immediate survival. They need weapons, shelter, allies, and a way through towns where panic is spreading faster than any reliable news. But the series is not only a zombie story. Magic, ancient forces, strange creatures, and a growing spiritual threat are all part of the landscape.

The West is hostile before the monsters arrive.

Nina matters because she is more than another survivor with a gun. Her connection to her Shoshone roots, the land, and the spirit world becomes increasingly important as the danger grows. That gives the series a supernatural thread alongside the gunfights, travel, and desperate bargains of a frontier survival tale.

The first book, Those Poor, Poor Bastards, introduces the outbreak and the ragged group trying to survive it. The Ten Thousand Things sends Nina and her allies across the Sierra Nevada, where the road is filled with hostile strangers, undead creatures, and threats that test the group's ability to trust one another.

Expect a rough, violent, supernatural Western. The books move through stations, wilderness, rail lines, and small settlements, using the real hardships of frontier travel as part of the tension. Food, ammunition, weather, and the next safe place to sleep all matter.

Read in order. The second book builds directly on Nina's journey and on the larger supernatural danger introduced in the first.
