Series background & context

Fracture, written by Kenny Soward with Mike Kraus, is a post-apocalyptic disaster series built around a geological crisis that keeps getting worse. Earthquakes, tsunamis, ruptures, and later eruptions tear through the United States, leaving families scattered and governments struggling to understand what is happening.

The story centers on Ben Willard, a geologist and Department of Defense contractor. Ben sees signs that the disasters are not isolated events, and his knowledge makes him valuable to people who want answers. Unfortunately, he is also separated from the people he most wants to protect. The series keeps him caught between the pull of his family and the wider emergency unfolding around him.

Everyone is running toward something.

Pam Willard and the children face their own dangers as normal services disappear, roads become unreliable, and frightened people make bad choices. Other family members and survivors carry their own burdens, so the books move among connected viewpoints instead of relying on one lone hero. That keeps the stakes personal even when whole regions are collapsing.

The opening novel, Fracture, starts with seismic anomalies and devastating events along the West Coast. Taken widens the crisis with an EMP, earthquakes, unrest, and martial law. In Firewalk, eruptions and tectonic upheaval push the disaster still further. The later books continue the Willards' long fight to reunite, find safety, and understand what has been unleashed.

This is a tense, practical survival series. Characters have to think about transportation, injuries, supplies, weather, communications, and who can be trusted. The science-fiction scale is large, but the emotional engine is a family trying not to be permanently torn apart.

Read the books in publication order, beginning with Fracture. The situation and the family relationships carry forward from one installment to the next.
