Author bio
Daphne Elliot writes small-town romance with a lot of flirtation, a lot of heart, and a very clear fondness for messy, lovable communities. Her books are full of banter, strong chemistry, and people trying to build happy lives after things have gone sideways.
In high school, she was voted most likely to become a romance novelist. It took a while for that prediction to catch up with real life. Before publishing fiction, she spent about a decade working as a corporate lawyer.
She has said she wanted to be an author from the time she was a little girl, when she filled journals with character ideas and short stories. Romance, though, came later. She read her first romance novel at 36 while staying awake with her newborn son, and during a stretch when postpartum depression had made it hard to focus on almost anything else.
That reading experience changed the course of her writing life. She has talked about romance as a source of laughter and relief during a hard season, and that feeling still runs through her work. When she decided to take writing more seriously, romance was the obvious fit.
It was a late start, and very much the right one.
Her debut novel, Trusting You, arrived in 2021 and introduced readers to Havenport, a fictional coastal Massachusetts town packed with breweries, fishing boats, gossip, and people who cannot mind their own business. She followed it with Finding You and Keeping You, building out the Quinn family and the wider Havenport circle. Those early books set the pattern for a lot of what came next: layered friendships, strong family ties, slow-burn tension, and heroines who are rebuilding something, whether that is a career, a home, or their trust in themselves.
From there, Elliot kept expanding. The Rossi Family books, including Resisting You, Holding You, and Embracing You, stay in that same emotional neighborhood while shifting the focus to different couples and more grown-up complications like single parenthood, illness, caregiving, and second chances. Her Maine-set lumberjack romances, especially Wood You Be Mine?, Wood You Marry Me?, and Caught in the Axe, push her style into even cozier and funnier territory, with flannel, moose, family feuds, and a little suspense mixed in.
She also seems to enjoy giving a charming town at least one dark secret.
That shows up clearly in newer books like Sap & Secrets and Maple & Moonlight, which move to Vermont and pair maple-festival sweetness with danger, mystery, and protective heroes who are much softer than they first appear. Across all of these series, Elliot returns to a few favorite ingredients: grumpy men with hidden tenderness, women figuring out what they want, fake relationships, second chances, found family, and towns where everybody has an opinion.
These days she lives on a small farm in New England with her husband, two kids, two dogs, twelve backyard chickens, and a hive of Italian honeybees. It feels like a setting one of her own characters would adore. Coffee, hot sauce, gardens, and a little domestic chaos all seem to be part of the package.
