Series background & context
Crimson, Colorado is Michelle Major in one of her most natural modes, small-town romance with mountain views, ranch life, family baggage, and a community that notices everything. The books are linked but readable on their own, and together they build a portrait of a town where people arrive carrying disappointments and slowly find room to start over.
The series begins with A Kiss on Crimson Ranch, where former child star Sara Wellens inherits half a guest ranch and collides with Josh Travers, an ex-bull rider and single dad who has very different plans for the property. That setup tells you a lot about the rest of the series. Major likes strong-willed heroines, grounded heroes, and practical problems like jobs, children, money, and shared property that make the emotional stakes feel real.
Crimson itself matters. This is a Colorado mountain town full of ranches, inns, community projects, holiday celebrations, and families who have known each other forever. The Travers and Bennett names come up often, and the books return again and again to the idea that love is not only about the couple. It is also about whether two people can imagine a place, and a family, they are willing to stay for.
Single parents, surprise children, second chances, and old crushes all thread through the series. There is a comforting rhythm to it, too. Someone comes to town, or comes back to town. They insist they are only passing through. The town, and one very inconveniently attractive person, has other ideas.
If you want Michelle Major's blend of warmth, emotional complication, and strong community feeling, this is one of the best places to start. Crimson is cozy without being sugary, romantic without forgetting real-life pressures, and full of characters who have to work for their happy endings.
