Series background & context

The Hotel Fortune mini-world uses a fresh-business setting to bring people together under pressure. A new hotel means jobs, ambition, class differences, and plenty of chances for characters to collide in ways they did not expect. Michelle Major's connected story, Her Texas New Year's Wish, captures that nicely.

Grace Williams is tied to the opening hotel through work, while Wiley Fortune arrives from a very different world, polished, wealthy, and harder to ignore than she would like. That gap in background gives the romance its central question. Can a woman who has learned caution believe that a city-bred Fortune is offering something real, not temporary excitement?

The hotel backdrop keeps the story feeling active and slightly glamorous without losing the emotional intimacy that Major usually prefers. It is still a Fortune romance at heart, family name, Texas setting, and the risk of loving someone whose life may not fit yours, but the workplace angle gives it a nice extra spark.
