British architect Keaton Fortune Whitfield can have almost any woman in Austin, except the one he actually wants. Waitress and student Francesca Harriman has no intention of becoming another easy Fortune story.

Series background & context

The Secret Fortunes strand plays with one of the central pleasures of the larger Fortune universe, the sense that there is always another hidden branch, old scandal, or unexpected connection waiting to surface. Michelle Major's linked story centers on Keaton Fortune Whitfield and Francesca Harriman, and the romance grows out of both attraction and the social gap between them.

Keaton moves through Texas with the confidence and spotlight that come with the Fortune name, while Francesca is busy working and studying and has little interest in becoming anyone's project. That contrast gives the story its push and pull. The emotional stakes are not just about desire. They are about class, trust, and whether a woman who has been burned before can believe that a powerful man sees her clearly.

This page is a good fit if you like your Fortunes stories with glamour on the edges but grounded, personal emotion at the center. The big family name is there, but the heart of the story is still two people figuring out whether love is worth the risk.
