Cormyr Saga Books in Order

The Cormyr Saga treats a kingdom almost like a lead character. Yes, there are rulers, wizards, heirs, plotters, and enemies, but the real subject is how a realm gets made, held together, threatened, and changed over time. That gives these books a broader sweep than a simple hero's journey.

Cormyr itself is one of the most important human kingdoms in the Forgotten Realms, and Greenwood clearly enjoys showing how it works from the inside. Royal succession matters. Court loyalties matter. The War Wizards matter. So do old precedents, family memory, and the simple fact that a kingdom can be weakened by the burdens of success as much as by open war.

That is why Cormyr and Death of the Dragon feel different from a dungeon crawl or road quest. They are interested in statecraft as much as danger. You still get battles, schemes, and dramatic threats, but they land harder because the books care about what failure would do to the whole realm.

The kingdom is always under pressure from somewhere.

If you like fantasy history, dynastic strain, and the feeling that rulers have to survive both ceremony and catastrophe, this series is a very good fit. It also pairs well with Greenwood's other Cormyr-centered books, especially the Knights and later Elminster novels.
