Author bio

Christie Craig grew up in a small town in Alabama, in a family where work was taken seriously and stories mattered. Her father was a plumber, her mother stayed home with the family, and reading didn't come easy because of dyslexia. She has said she did not really learn to read until third or fourth grade, when a determined teacher helped her through Charlotte's Web.

Long before publishing entered the picture, she was already telling herself stories.

Craig has said that as a girl she spent hours inventing mysteries, romances, and dramas in her head. She did not start reading for pleasure until much later, but once she did, writing stopped feeling like a vague wish and started looking like a real life. In her early twenties, after her husband asked what she wanted to do, she finally said it out loud, she wanted to be a writer.

The road from that moment to a career was slow. She spent years learning the craft, working around her dyslexia, and collecting rejections. She has said it took ten years to sell her first book, and after an early sale in 1994 she did not sell another book until 2007. When things finally broke open again, they broke open fast, with multiple sales at once.

That long apprenticeship shows up in how workmanlike and readable her books are.

Under her own name, Christie Craig writes romantic suspense that likes a little chaos with the chemistry. Books like Divorced, Desperate and Delicious, Divorced, Desperate and Dating, and Don't Mess with Texas throw smart, wary women into danger, then let the banter fly while detectives, PIs, and very inconvenient feelings close in. Later books such as Don't Close Your Eyes lean darker, with old crimes, damaged families, and the past refusing to stay buried. Readers tend to come for the mix of tension, humor, and Texas attitude.

Under the name C.C. Hunter, she opened up a different lane. Born at Midnight kicked off the Shadow Falls books, with Kylie Galen discovering that a camp in the Texas woods is full of supernaturals, and that she may be one of them. From there Craig, writing as Hunter, built out Shadow Falls: After Dark, The Mortician's Daughter, and standalones like This Heart of Mine and In Another Life. Those books trade adult romantic suspense for teen heroines, ghosts, secret identities, grief, first love, and a strong sense of not fitting in until the truth comes out.

A few themes keep surfacing across both names. She likes outsiders, people carrying hurt, and characters who have to keep moving even when life turns weird, dangerous, or unfair. She also likes warmth. Even when there is a murder, a ghost, or a cold case on the page, there is usually room for humor, loyalty, and a little hope.

Craig's working life has never been limited to novels. She has also worked as a photojournalist, speaker, and writing teacher, and she has co-written nonfiction books about romance writing and relationships with Faye Hughes. That practical side fits the fiction, too. Her stories may have paranormal twists or romantic sparks, but they stay grounded in people trying to figure out what to do next.

She later lived in Los Angeles, where she met her husband, and eventually settled in Texas, which has become a big part of the feel of her books. She has described herself as lucky to make a living doing work she loves. When she is not writing, her public bio places her in Texas with her husband, her dog Lady, and whatever wild creatures wander out of the nearby woods.
