Expect a moodier tone than in some of her later books. There is more gothic shadow here, more tension around trust, and more emphasis on the idea that love can be both a refuge and a risk. Drake is the kind of hero who arrives wrapped in questions. Raven is the kind of heroine who has to grow fast or get swallowed whole.

If you like fantasy romance with a hell-touched edge, this trilogy is a good fit. It has prophecy, dark glamour, and a central pair whose story keeps getting bigger as the stakes climb.
