The Alaskan Royal Family books imagine an alternate history where Alaska was never sold to the United States and instead became its own monarchy under the Baranov family. That setup gives Davidson a playground for royal romance, fish-out-of-water comedy, and plenty of family interference.

The crown does not make anyone's life easier.

Each book follows a different member of the royal circle, but the family itself is what links the series. Kings, princesses, heirs, and the people who fall for them all have to navigate duty, gossip, and the practical weirdness of trying to have a real relationship when a whole country thinks your business is public property. Davidson uses that tension for laughs as often as she uses it for drama.

These books are less supernatural than many of her better-known series, but they have the same fondness for strong-willed heroines and men who are not quite ready for them. The alternate-history setting keeps things slightly off-center, which suits her voice.

If you want contemporary-feeling romance with a royal hook and a slightly sideways version of the world, the Baranovs are a good place to start.
