Insighter Books in Order

The Insighter books take Davidson into reincarnation territory. The heroine, Leah Nazir, can look into past lives and help people uncover what followed them into the present, which would already be a lot for one person. Unfortunately, her own past is a bigger mess than most of her clients'.

Leah has been murdered before, and she knows it.

That gives the series its hook. These books are part paranormal thriller, part romance, and part long-running mystery about who keeps finding Leah across lifetimes and why. Archer Drake, the private investigator who gets pulled into her orbit, gives the series a strong detective thread, but the real tension comes from the way past and present keep echoing each other.

Davidson's humor is still here, but the Insighter books are a little moodier than Queen Betsy or Fred the Mermaid. They are interested in memory, fate, and whether people can break patterns that seem older than reason. Even so, Leah is too lively a narrator, and too suspicious of nonsense, for the books to get heavy for long.

If you like paranormal romance with a mystery backbone and a premise that lets the past keep crashing into the present, Insighter is worth a look.
