Series background & context
The Danger books sit on the contemporary side of Davidson's backlist, but they still have her usual taste for trouble. These stories mix romance, family baggage, odd humor, and mystery-adjacent complications, often with people who would very much like a normal life and never quite get one.
Normal is not on offer here.
What links the books is tone more than a single giant plot. Davidson writes contemporary romance the same way she writes paranormal romance, by throwing strong personalities together and letting the banter do a lot of work. The couples are usually dealing with more than attraction, old wounds, relatives, money, cold cases, missing trust, or the simple fact that they are terrible at staying out of each other's business.
There is also a travel-and-homecoming quality to parts of the series. People return to Minnesota, get trapped by family needs, or wind up in places they did not expect to be. Davidson likes romance best when it is inconvenient, and these books make good use of that.
If you enjoy her voice but want less supernatural machinery and more contemporary mess, the Danger books are a solid next stop.
