Series background & context
The Adam Park Thriller series follows a former private investigator who has the money to avoid trouble but not the temperament to ignore it. Adam Park is intelligent, capable, and deeply uncomfortable with the violent instincts that have helped him survive. Each case tests the line he wants to draw between protecting people and becoming someone he no longer recognizes.
The series opens with The Dead and the Missing, previously published as Twilight Burning. Adam is drawn back into investigative work when his former mentor's niece flees after stealing from a criminal. His search takes him through Paris and into Asia, where trafficking networks, corrupt officials, and the missing woman's manipulative boyfriend make a simple rescue impossible.
Adam's cases travel. A lot.
In A Desperate Paradise, he investigates the murder of an aid worker on the Greek island of Paramatra, where refugees, smuggling gangs, corruption, and desperation shape every lead. The Shadows of Empty Men keeps him in the Aegean region when a routine family-history job turns into a fight over an heiress's fortune and a secret people have guarded for decades.
The shorter Night at the George Washington Diner places Adam in Croatia. He steps into an apparent domestic dispute at a remote American-themed diner, only to face a violent return visit from the abusive boyfriend and his biker-gang friends. It works as a quick bridge between longer novels and gives a clear sense of Adam's instinctive refusal to look away.
Master the Flame sends Adam to Amsterdam to investigate a serial arsonist after a criminal from his past demands one last favor. With Sophie Remick, he traces a deadly path through organized crime, smuggling, and competing law-enforcement interests. In Under the Long White Cloud, Adam and his partner Jess try to build a new life in New Zealand, but a dead client, fake identities, land deals, and a drug gang pull them into another high-risk investigation.
These are action-heavy private-eye thrillers, but Adam's internal struggle is the through line. He wants to be helpful. He wants a quieter life. Yet the people he meets are often in danger because someone more powerful has decided their lives are expendable.
Begin with The Dead and the Missing / Twilight Burning for Adam's backstory and the first full look at his methods. The books work as separate cases, but reading in order gives more weight to the consequences Adam carries from one investigation to the next.
