The Moses and Rock series is a British crime thriller sequence centered on an uneasy detective partnership inside a quiet, secretive police unit. In No New Purpose, Rock's unresolved past in the military becomes part of a new investigation after an attempted assassination is linked to a cold case. Moses must keep their instincts from sending them too far while they confront old grudges, evasive authorities, and the possibility that someone is using power to hide murder.

Persecution of Lunacy splits the partnership for the first time. A wealthy art dealer's young daughter has been kidnapped, but there is no ransom demand. Moses focuses on finding the girl, while Rock goes undercover around the child's mother and her smuggling operation. Their separate roles make the case more personal and show how differently they approach risk.

The tone is hard-edged and fast-moving, but the series is also interested in the push and pull between its two leads. Moses and Rock can be abrasive, yet each sees qualities in the other that most colleagues miss.
