The Lost Origins series is A. D. Davies's globe-trotting action adventure sequence about stolen artifacts, buried history, and the trouble that starts when old stories turn out to be real. The books mix archaeology, religious mysteries, secret organizations, and dangerous people who see the past as a source of power.

It begins with Tomb of the First Priest. Jules Sibeko is a freelance treasure hunter searching for a bangle stolen from his dying mother. That search leads him to the Lost Origins Recovery Institute, a small group that works to recover artifacts and return them to the places they belong. Their mission is a little idealistic, a little rule-bending, and rarely safe.

Jules becomes the series' restless center. He is highly skilled, intensely curious, and not always easy for the rest of the team to trust. The Institute's director, Toby Smith, brings historical knowledge and a strong sense of purpose, while the wider group supplies technical skill, languages, security experience, and enough differing opinions to keep every mission complicated.

Nothing stays in a museum for long.

Each book takes the team after a different object or historical puzzle. In The Reaper Seal, missing Sumerian seals and Toby's imprisonment pull the group into an international rescue and an investigation stretching across continents. The Eagle Plague turns to a Roman military symbol with a disturbing modern use, putting Jules and the Institute in the path of a man willing to poison the world.

By Guardians of the Four Shields, Jules has tried to build a quieter life and even joined the NYPD. The Institute's need for help draws him back into a hunt involving a legendary shield, an ancient order, and rival forces who understand just how dangerous old knowledge can be. The series keeps raising the scale, but it does not forget the strain these missions put on friendships and personal loyalties.

Expect fast travel, coded clues, historical what-ifs, physical danger, and a light supernatural edge. The stories move from Prague and London to Asia, the Americas, New Zealand, and other locations, treating the setting as part of the puzzle rather than just a backdrop.

Start with Tomb of the First Priest. It introduces Jules, the Institute, and the central idea that humanity's accepted history may have some major gaps. The later novels work best in sequence because the team relationships and Jules's place within them continue to develop, even though each mission has its own artifact, villain, and mystery to solve.
