Series background & context

The Xander King novels are where Bradley Wright first introduced the larger-than-life operator who would go on to anchor so much of his fictional universe. Here, the focus is on the man before the code names and cleaner story lines, when revenge is his only clear objective.

On the surface, Xander King is everything a glossy magazine might celebrate. He is young, handsome, and wildly successful in business, living large in Las Vegas and the Virgin Islands. That image, carefully cultivated, helps hide who he really is and what he is waiting for.

Underneath the tailored suits, Xander is a former special operations legend with a very personal mission. As a boy he watched his parents murdered in front of him. The people responsible were never brought to justice. He spends his adult life training, preparing, and hunting, determined to find the monster who destroyed his family.

Whiskey & Roses throws a match on that long fuse. After a night with Hollywood star Natalie Rockwell is interrupted by a carefully planned attack, Xander decides it is finally time to stop sharpening his skills in the shadows and go to war. The CIA, which has been watching his double life with interest, wants him back under their control. Xander has other ideas.

Across Vanquish, King's Ransom, King's Reign, Scourge, and the prequel novella Vendetta, the series follows his clashes with assassins, terrorists, and criminals who underestimate what a determined man with money, training, and a loyal team can do. One book takes him from a party yacht to a hospital bed and into a deadly game against Russia’s most feared killer. Another sees Natalie kidnapped and a champion racehorse slaughtered, driving Xander to Paris in a race against both the clock and a broader strike on American soil.

Later installments widen the lens. Xander is pulled into missions where his personal vendettas overlap with national security. He goes after child traffickers south of the border and men building small weapons with world-ending potential. Each time, the stakes grow, but the core remains the same: a man who refuses to let anyone else suffer the way he did.

The Xander King series is glossy and brutal at once, blending private jets and five-star hotels with back-alley firefights and broken bones. It shows how a charismatic playboy becomes the kind of secret weapon governments whisper about, setting the stage for the Alexander King stories that follow.
