Series background & context
Mike Carey's Wetworks takes a military monster-hunting setup and pushes it toward horror action with a pulp edge. The core of the series is Jackson Dane and his team, operatives fighting vampires, werewolves, and other lethal threats while trying to keep the ordinary world from learning just how crowded the dark really is.
It is very much a team book.
That means the appeal is not only the creatures and combat, though there is plenty of both. It is also about unstable alliances, command pressure, and the problem of trying to wage a hidden war without becoming as monstrous as what you are fighting. Carey gives the material enough seriousness to make the stakes land, while still keeping the story moving like a proper supernatural action comic.
If you like black-ops setups, big creature mythology, and squads of damaged people forced to work together against worse things, Wetworks hits that lane cleanly.
