Series background & context
The Welcome To Whitsborough Bay series is a four book introduction to Jessica Redland's fictional seaside town on the North Yorkshire coast. Each novel focuses on a different heroine, but their lives are tightly woven together through family, friendship and the places they share.
In Making Wishes at Bay View, we meet Callie Derbyshire, who loves her work as a carer at Bay View care home and believes she has finally found the right man. Beneath that optimism, though, lie interfering ex partners, lingering insecurities and concern for her favourite resident, Ruby, who seems to be fading. When Callie uncovers the story of Ruby's lost love, she becomes determined to give the older woman a second shot at a happy ending and, in the process, has to decide what she truly wants from her own future.
New Beginnings at Seaside Blooms follows Sarah Peterson as she walks away from a dead end relationship and corporate life in London. Offered the chance to take over her aunt's flower shop in Whitsborough Bay, she grabs at the opportunity for a fresh start. Packing up her flat uncovers an old clairvoyant's reading where every prediction has come true except one, that she will meet the love of her life called Steven. The story explores whether destiny is fixed, what happens when several Stevens appear and how Sarah builds a real life in a new town.
In Finding Hope at Lighthouse Cove, the spotlight turns to Elise, who thought she had her life mapped out with her childhood sweetheart Gary. When he admits he no longer wants the same future, Elise faces divorce, money worries and the pain of watching her friends move ahead with their own plans. Asked to be bridesmaid for Sarah, she forces herself to keep smiling while she quietly unravels. Meeting recently divorced Daniel brings the possibility of new love, but trusting him means risking another broken heart.
Coming Home to Seashell Cottage introduces Clare O'Connell, who has lived by four strict rules since she was sixteen: do not talk about Ireland, do not think about Ireland, do not go back to Ireland and do not let anyone in. Her career has flourished and she has good friends in Whitsborough Bay, but a work trip to Ireland drags her back to the village of Ballykielty and the family secrets she has spent half her life outrunning. The book follows her as she confronts old trauma, reconnects with people she left behind and decides whether home might be bigger than she imagined.
These stories criss cross in time and place, with characters appearing in one another's books and familiar locations like Bay View, Seaside Blooms and the lighthouse creating a sense of a living town. While each novel offers a complete emotional arc for its heroine, reading the series in order lets you watch friendships deepen and Whitsborough Bay itself come fully into focus.
