Series background & context

The Warriors of the Mist series takes place in Agathia, a kingdom threatened by cruel rule and dark magic. Its heroes are legendary fighters called the Damned, warriors cursed by the gods to answer worthy summons and fight for causes that may offer them a path toward redemption.

They have waited a very long time to be free.

The series begins with My Lady Mage, when Merewen turns to the river in desperation. Her guardian's greed and magic are destroying the people she wants to protect, and the old stories say that the Warriors of the Mist can be called when a cause is just. Gideon, the warriors' captain, answers with his brothers, knowing that victory may be their only chance to escape an eternity of punishment.

Merewen is not waiting around to be rescued. She has inherited an unusual connection to the horses on her land and understands what is at stake for her people. Gideon offers protection and military skill, but their relationship grows from shared purpose as much as attraction.

Her Knight's Quest continues the struggle against Duke Keirthan and his dark power. Duncan, one of the immortal warriors and a scholar at heart, travels to an abbey in search of knowledge that might help defeat the enemy. There he meets Abbess Lavinia, a woman with her own reasons to distrust magic and to guard the secrets in her care.

The fate of Agathia remains uncertain.

In Honor's Price, Kane faces the lure of dark magic while Lady Theda works to end Keirthan's rule after the death of her husband. The series keeps moving its focus among members of the warrior band and the women who become their allies, while the larger political and magical conflict continues in the background.

These are romantic fantasy adventures with swords, sorcery, quests, old gods, and a kingdom in trouble. The emotional core is redemption. The Damned have made mistakes and carry the weight of their curse, but they are repeatedly asked to choose courage and mercy in the present.

Start with My Lady Mage. The books are connected by the war for Agathia and the shared fate of the Warriors, so reading in order lets the magic system, relationships, and rising threat unfold naturally.
