Series background & context

The Paladin Strike Team returns to the supernatural world of Alexis Morgan's earlier Paladin books, but it starts from the view of people discovering that world for the first time. The central conflict remains the same: Paladins are warriors tied to a long war against the Others, and the cost of that fight is never small.

Death is not always the end for a Paladin.

In In Darkness Transformed, Sergeant Eli Jervain survives a helicopter crash that should have killed him. His wounds heal in ways that make no sense, and the life he knew begins to fall apart. Safara Dennell knows more than she can safely tell him. She comes from Kalithia, a world bound up in the old conflict, and she understands that Eli's survival means he may be something neither of them expected.

The series builds its tension around hidden identities, divided loyalties, and the danger of trusting someone raised on the other side of a war. Eli and Safara have reasons to fear each other, but circumstances keep forcing them together. Their growing connection is complicated by the rules and old resentments that have shaped both of their worlds.

The second book, Atone in Darkness, shifts to physician Marisol Riggs and her mysterious patient, Chase Mosely. Marisol is working under the control of a military operation that treats Chase as an object of study rather than a person. Chase has extraordinary abilities, a guarded nature, and every reason not to trust the doctor assigned to him. Their story raises the stakes from private survival to escape.

The danger is close and personal.

These books are paranormal romances with a thriller edge. There are secret facilities, military pressure, healing that comes at a cost, and people trying to decide what they owe to the groups that claim them. The romantic pairings matter, but the series also keeps its focus on what it means to be changed by violence and still choose compassion.

Readers familiar with Paladins of Darkness will recognize the larger world and its ongoing conflict. New readers can begin here, though, because the books introduce their leads through the shock of discovery. Start with In Darkness Transformed for Eli and Safara's entry into the Paladin world, then continue to Atone in Darkness for a darker story of captivity, courage, and trust.
