Series background & context
Vigilante Kings is a four-book contemporary romantic suspense series set around a college campus, where small crimes lead to a much larger and more personal investigation. The story follows Madelyn, who arrives at college carrying hurt and unanswered questions about her stepbrother, Logan Brooks. Two years earlier, she helped him after he turned up injured, shared a brief intimate moment with him, and was then shut out of his life.
When Madelyn's car is stolen outside her dorm, her roommate points her toward the Vigil, a student group that takes on cases when campus security falls short. Madelyn expects help finding a car. Instead, she finds Logan and the friends he works with. Their reunion is awkward from the start, but the group insists on taking her case, and Madelyn refuses to sit on the sidelines while they investigate.
Savage Secrets establishes the central mystery and the uneasy attraction between Madelyn and the men of the Vigil. In Reckless Games, their search brings them to an unsolved crime that affected Madelyn's family long before she understood its importance. The stakes become more personal, and she begins to see that the people closest to her may have kept more from her than she knew.
The past is not finished with any of them.
The later books raise the pressure rather than shifting to a new couple or a separate case. In Wicked Love, suspicion falls on one of the men Madelyn has come to trust, while a larger organization threatens their investigation and the city around them. Twisted Empire brings the group's search for answers about her father's murder toward its final confrontation. The romance develops alongside the mystery, with Madelyn at the center of a relationship involving Logan and his three friends.
The series is part of the Devil's Dozen world, but it can be read on its own. Readers do not need the earlier connected series to follow Madelyn's story, although a few familiar characters and references appear. The college setting gives the first book a grounded starting point, then the story expands into family secrets, corruption, and people willing to bend the rules when official systems fail.
Expect a fast-moving mix of campus life, strained family ties, protective allies, and escalating danger. The books are designed as one continuous story, so starting with Savage Secrets is the clearest way to follow both the investigation and the changing relationships.
