Veronica Rossi Books in Order

Veronica Rossi was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and spent much of her childhood moving between countries. She lived in Mexico and Venezuela, as well as different parts of the United States, before arriving in California as a teenager. That mix of places and cultures gave her an early sense that home can be both a location and something people build with one another.

She attended UCLA as an undergraduate, then changed course to study fine art at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco. Before publishing fiction, Rossi was a painter who worked on large oil canvases and could disappear into a project for hours at a time.

Motherhood changed the rhythm of that work.

After her first son was born, painting at that all-consuming pace became harder to manage. Rossi began writing instead, drawing on a lifelong habit of reading and journaling. She found that storytelling clicked quickly, and the visual side of her art stayed with her in the way she imagined scenes, places, and characters.

The road to publication still took time. She spent years working on fiction, and in 2009, after receiving a difficult critique on a long-running project, she put it aside and began exploring a new idea. She wanted to bring together two people from radically different societies, one shaped by advanced technology and one by a harsher, more traditional way of life.

That idea became Under the Never Sky, her 2012 debut. The novel introduces Aria, a girl raised inside a protected dome, and Perry, a young man from the dangerous world beyond it. Their story continued in Through the Ever Night and Into the Still Blue, mixing survival, romance, rival communities, and the search for a safe place in a world battered by violent storms.

Rossi later returned to that world with shorter stories centered on Roar, Liv, and Brooke, then with Roar of the Tides, which gives Roar a new journey after the original trilogy.

She also shifted gears with Riders and Seeker, a fantasy duology about modern teens connected to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Her historical novel Rebel Spy follows a young woman who assumes a new identity during the American Revolution and becomes involved in intelligence work. Across these books, Rossi often writes young people who are trying to earn trust, protect their chosen family, and decide who they want to be when the stakes get high.

Her stories tend to pair big external danger with personal questions about loyalty, belonging, grief, and love. There are wild landscapes, secretive institutions, tense road trips, and characters who have to keep moving even when they are scared.

Rossi has made her home in Northern California with her husband and two sons. Away from the page, she has continued to enjoy reading and painting, two interests that helped lead her toward fiction in the first place.
